Like many professional musicians, Dr. John Burge was fortunate to study music with many inspiring teachers as well as observe many great teachers work with his children. Paying tribute to these teachers, Dr. Burge will present a lively and informative talk focusing specifically on ten tips with stories and demonstrations.

Awards Luncheon
Guest Speaker - Julie Nesrallah

ORMTA's annual Awards Luncheon is a celebration of its great members! ORMTA Contribution to Teaching Award (OCTA) recipients will be honoured. ORMTA's Pedagogy Award Winner will be recognized. Tributes will be bestowed on those who will be celebrating their 25th and 50th anniversaries as ORMTA members. And finally, vocalist and CBC Radio 2 host, Julie Nesrallah, will be our special guest.  Ms. Nesrallah will be awarded with an ORMTA Honorary membership.
Luncheon Dress Code: Red and White (in the theme of the Convention).

Provincial Student Instrumental Competition
Adjudicators - Dr. Midori Koga, Dr. John Burge, Kevin McMillan

Every year, the ORMTA showcases some of the most talented advanced instrumental music students from across Ontario in this prestigious competition.  Students of ORMTA members first compete locally at the branch level.  A local branch winner then qualifies to compete at their regional zone competition.  Winners of each zone competition across Ontario then earn the right to advance to this provincial competition.  Click here for more info.

"Celebrating Canadian Music with our Students"

This workshop is designed to provide an outline of techniques and resources used by contemporary composers. Discussions and performances of solo/ensemble works will follow as well as presentations by composer, Susan Griesdale, and Matthew Fava of the Canadian Music Centre.
