Am I right in thinking that the ORMTA Provincial By-Laws are going to be revised this year?  If so, when can that be expected to be finished?  Can members have any input?

I don't know when our bylaws will have to be revised, but they will have to be done soon to comply with the upcoming Provincial Not-For-Profit Corporations Act. This is what CFMTA is doing now, to comply with the Canadian Not-For-Profit Corporations Act.
When ORMTA embarks on this project, I am sure the Bylaws Chairperson would welcome input from any member who is interested in contributing. Although bylaws is a fairly dry subject to most, to me they represent the bones of an organization, and not only dictate how the organization is run, but define what is important in that organization.

Yes, our Bylaws will be revised.

The bill is expected to pass this July (2013) and after that date we will have three years to review, revise, and get member input.

We will be starting this process in the fall, and hopefully will have a first draft ready for member input by the 2014 ORMTA AGM.

If you have further questions, please feel free to contact me again.

May I also say that I agree with Judy whole-heartedly!  While we don't HAVE to take three years to do this, it is reassuring to know that we have time to do this right, and also time for members to think about what they would like to remain the same, and an opportunity to make any changes that would be better suited to the evolving organizational matters.

We will certainly be asking Judy, as a Past President, to work with us through this process.

Thank you very much Judy and Charlene.  I agree also that the By-laws are the 'bones' of the organization, and all-important in everything we do.

In Hamilton-Halton we are currently looking at revising our 'Policies and Procedures', and I wondered if we should wait until the provincial By-laws are revised to do that.  But since it's a three-year process for the By-laws, I think we'll go ahead and base our policies revisions on the current provincial laws.

I look forward to having some input when the time comes.  Thanks again.
