Each month, ORMTA will be sharing some of the tools that are available to music teachers and students.

ORMTA members are welcome to suggest resources. If you have used a website, blog, app, book, newsletter, webinar, workshop, tool, etc. that would help build professional development within our membership, please let us know by emailing professionaldevelopment@ormta.org. We aim to include Ontarian or Canadian content in each issue.

IDAGIO

IDAGIO is a streaming service specializing in classical music, with both free and paid tiers starting at $9.99 per month. It has over 2.5 million tracks, expert curation, recorded concerts and educational material. IDAGIO was founded in 2015 and officially started its streaming app for iOS at the Salzburg Festival that year. The service works with a Fair Artist Payout Model which means two things - firstly that they pay artists and rights holders per second instead of per play, and secondly that they distribute royalties based on the actual listening behaviour of each single user. With IDAGIO you directly support the artist you love. Check it out here

Semitone Music Education

Semitone is a music theory education and reference app that helps you learn about music through interactive challenges and extensive reference material. Students can practice their skills using games found within the app. There are note, interval, chord, and scale identification challenges for both piano and guitar. This app also features handy diagrams and charts, outlining the formula for all types of scales and chords. You can find the app here
