Every two years, ORMTA showcases some of the most talented student performers from across Ontario in this prestigious competition. Students of ORMTA members must first compete locally at the branch level. The local branch winner then qualifies to compete at their regional zone competition. Winners of each zone competition across Ontario then earn the right to advance to the provincial competition.

Open to both instrumentalists and singers, students are expected to perform a stylistically balanced recital at an Associate level or higher. Each student receives a written critique from a panel of distinguished adjudicators.

The winner of the ORMTA Young Artist Competition is awarded a scholarship and a concert tour of Ontario hosted by local ORMTA branches. The pianist who receives the highest standing in the ORMTA Young Artist Competition earns the right to represent Ontario at the CFMTA National Piano Competition, taking place the following year.
