Each month, ORMTA will be sharing some of the tools that are available to music teachers and students.
ORMTA members are welcome to suggest resources. If you have used a website, blog, app, book, newsletter, webinar, workshop, tool, etc. that would help build professional development within our membership, please let us know by emailing professionaldevelopment@ormta.org. We aim to include Ontarian or Canadian content in each issue. |
| Rhythm Cat
This app can be used on both Apple and Android devices. There is a paid version for $6.99 CAD and a free version called “Rhythm Cat Lite”. The student can use this app to practice reading the simplest and most commonly found rhythm notation. The student taps the rhythm on the screen to a backing track and the note turns green when the rhythm is accurately played.
Try Rhythm Cat Lite for iOS or Android. Get the full app for iOS here or for Android here. | | Note Rush
A note reading app that is available for both Apple and Android devices. This interactive app allows students to practice note recognition skills as they play each note on their instrument. This “game-like” app awards stars based on speed accuracy. The newest version of this app allows students to design their own level. On the flip side, a teacher can develop different levels to target students' specific learning needs (i.e. accidentals, ledger line notes, treble or bass staff). Teachers can send QR codes or app links to their students. Get Note Rush here. | | |
If you have an excellent teaching resource or know of an upcoming professional development event, share it with us!
