Each month, ORMTA will be sharing some of the tools that are available to music teachers and students.

ORMTA members are welcome to suggest resources. If you have used a website, blog, app, book, newsletter, webinar, workshop, tool, etc. that would help build professional development within our membership, please let us know by emailing professionaldevelopment@ormta.org. We aim to include Ontarian or Canadian content in each issue.

AnyTune

This app allows the student to reduce or increase the speed of their downloaded music or backing track. This feature is also useful in allowing musicians to transcribe chords or melodies of songs. The app also allows the user to change the key of the selected track. The “loop” feature allows the user to create practice loops for challenging sections of music that they need to master.

Find it on the App Store or Google Play.

Clap for Classics!

Clap for Classics provides musical resources for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Kathryn and Elizabeth, two classically-trained musicians, offer plenty of resources on their website to build connections between kids, parents and the world through joyful exploration of music. You can also listen to their podcast in which they use classical music, folk songs, nursery rhymes and movement to make music easy, fun and educational. Join Ms. Elizabeth and Forte the Lion while they sing, move their bodies and learn about Classical Music. Their topics are fun and seasonal: Ice Skating with Vivaldi and a Penguin, Twinkle Twinkle Little Ghost, The Nutcracker, etc. They also have special guests to teach musical concepts such as Piano the Cat for dynamics, or Presto the Donkey for tempo.
